Public Safety 700 MHz Narrowband Relocation
The FCC has mandated the consolidation of existing public safety narrowband voice allocations to the upper half of the 700 MHz public safety band. It has assigned responsibility to the PSST, the public safety broadband licensee, to administer the relocation process consistent with the requirements and deadlines established by the FCC. Key aspects of this relocation include:
- Every 700 MHz band public safety licensee, whether holding individual narrowband authorizations or operating pursuant to a state license, was required to provide certain information to the FCC by October 23, 2007 if they intended to participate in the narrowband relocation process.
- The D Block licensee is required to pay the costs for the relocation associated with moving public safety narrowband operations to the consolidated channels, consistent with a cost cap established by the FCC.
- The D Block license and the PSST jointly must submit a relocation plan for the FCC's approval within the first 30 days of the Network Sharing Agreement negotiations.
